Wow. Can we please stop bashing AT&T

Based on this [via Gruber](page 8, specifically), Apple devices account for 1,744,197,964 requests on the admob network. 1.7billion requests folks.

The next closest device manufacturer is Samsung at a cool 991,701,128. Just under 1b. Meaning, in general terms, Apple devices count for double the request on the admob network than the next competitor.

Granted these numbers include iPod touches, but it’s still rather astounding.

Worldwide, the iPhone accounts for nearly 1/4 of all the admob requests. WORLDWIDE.

Back to the US, AT&T is the exclusive carrier of the iPhone and it accounts for nearly 70% of the data requests on their network.

The report doesn’t call out what percentage of US requests are generated from AT&T, but you can clearly extrapolate that AT&T is experiencing a watershed moment in wireless carrier history.

I think that this is why I give them so much leeway. I think the iPhone on any other device would “cripple” (I don’t really notice it) a network like AT&T has experienced.

Perhaps also, this is accounts for the delay in rolling out tethering, maybe AT&T actually cares about the service it provides, and is being careful by not allowing tethering, thinking of the additional strain it would put on the network. And I think that’s the case, although I can’t find the press release right now.
